Application examples and products
How does the technology work?
The biocidal, i.e. germ-killing, effect of electrons is used on an industrial scale, for example in the disinfection of food packaging, the sterilization of medical products such as implants and in the production of vaccines. Electron treatment processes are used in many different ways and are available for various applications.
The E-VITA process is the transfer of this resource-saving, high-throughput and non-selective disinfection method to plant technology for bulk material disinfection. Independent tests have shown that the energy dose required for seed treatment to ensure safe disinfection is 12 kGy.
The E-VITA process refers to the technical application of this dose to seed in free fall - whether in compact systems of type EV 120, in proven large systems of type EV 250 or the latest combination systems of type EV 260(P). In the E-VITA process, the required dose of electrons is applied evenly to the entire surface of the product in such a way that the pathogens die within fractions of a second and without the possibility of resistance developing.

Practical experience
The technology and systems engineering for the electron treatment of seeds have been developed, tested and continuously refined over a long period of time, taking practical experience into account. During this time, together with independent federal and state institutions, large seed producers, breeders and countless farmers, it has been proven that the technology is ready for widespread use.
In 2012, the first automated high-throughput system was installed in Güstrow for this purpose. The widespread use of the technology began in 2014 with the simultaneous establishment of a uniform and recognizable brand and product structure as well as professional support for all farmers using these products. Since 2018, over 16,000 tons of grain have been gently treated with electrons every year at the Ceravis AG site in Güstrow alone. Thanks to new seed producers entering the market and the option of renting equipment since 2022, over 23,000 tons of seed will be treated using the E-VITA PUR and E-VITA PLUS process for the first time in 2023. In 2023 alone, E-VITA seed was applied to over 165,000 hectares in Germany.
In the meantime (as of Oct. 23), over 230,000 tons of seed have been treated in Germany using the E-VITA process, saving over ½ million liters of seed dressing. Year after year, more breeders, seed producers and contractors are adding E-VITA-treated seed to their portfolios.
